A group of advocates at the Durban bar is working on a transformation initiative to introduce more black advocates to maritime work. This has kicked off with a series of lectures, which will continue over the coming months. In appropriate cases, trainees will be invited to assist trainers on a similar basis as would a pupil, as part of their on-the-job training.
Many of the trainees have joined the MLA and members will meet them at our gatherings and conferences. It is hoped that these trainees will start to receive maritime briefs in due course and their trainer's will of course always be on hand to give them support and guidance.
