Transformation Initiative: Report on Meet & Greet the Durban Bar Advocates hosted by the MLA at Norton Rose Fulbright, Durban.

The Maritime Law Association (MLA) hosted a “Meet and Greet” event at the offices of Norton Rose Fulbright in Umhlanga on 30 March 2023, as part of a transformation iniative undertaken by members of the Durban Bar. The iniative commenced in June 2022 with a series of twelve lectures on various aspects of maritime law, delivered by several experts in this field.  The lectures were in-person, tutorial-style, so as to encourage interaction and to foster relationships between existing and aspirant maritime advocates. During the next phase, participants were encouraged to work on real maritime cases (as they would have done during pupillage) to gain practical experience. The final phase of the iniative was for participants to meet the attorneys in this field, which was accomplished through the Meet and Greet event. Participants have also been encouraged to join the MLA and volunteer to serve on its sub-committees, as a further opportunity to learn and network.
